Nothing is more iconic to the Lancaster County region than lush rolling farmland and stout stone farmhouses as old as America itself. These are the symbols of our region. Strength, tradition, honesty, and hard work. And underlying it all is good stewardship of the land. The challenge of our times is to preserve the world famous craftsmanship of our region, while incorporating the most advanced and efficient construction methods. It is not easy to embrace new procedures while maintaining traditional quality. But at Green Rock Contracting we diligently pursue both, at all times. 

OUR STONE

Settlers to our region needed to clear fields for crops, and then needed homes, barns, and fences. The two went hand in hand, as rocks gathered from the field became the cornerstones and the hearthstones of homes and barns, and created walls to protect livestock, hold back the earth, and direct streams. The stone rose and created our communities, our economy, and our institutions. The strength and beauty of these structures still stand today. From the old rowhomes of King and Duke Streets, to the Cornwall Brownstone of the Iron Forge. From the Hans Herr house to the quiet water between walls of Lititz Park. Churches and City Halls have stood for hundreds of years, preserving their structures and the principles they uphold.

RESILIENCE AND DECAY

While our region remains known for timeless craftsmanship, the pace of modern life has caused many craftsman and builders to abandon quality for haste and quantity. This threatens to erode not only the projects such builders create, but the very values that permeate our workmanship and lives. Walls are compromised, gutters rust, and so called “upgrades” last for less and less time. 

However, a commitment to quality workmanship does not preclude prompt service or modern energy efficiency. If a builder is not willing to compromise, then advances in building methods and materials are adopted without compromising the solid resiliency of the structure.
